From october on, MGC will be part of GC of Medicine and Health

In the course of the School Transformation, the Faculty Graduate Centers of the TUM Graduate School will be transferred to Graduate Centers at the Schools according to the HSP resolution. Accordingly, the Faculty Graduate Centers of Sport and Health Sciences (FGZ-SG) and Medicine (MGC) will be closed on 30th September 2023 and the Graduate Center of Medicine and Health will be established on 1st October 2023, succeeding the above-named Graduate Centers. The doctoral candidates of the above-mentioned Graduate Centers will become members of the Graduate Center of Medicine and Health (GC MH).

What does this mean for the doctoral candidates?

The active doctoral candidates of the above-mentioned Graduate Centers will be automatically transferred to the Graduate Center of Medicine and Health at the time of dissolution. This will ensure that the doctoral candidates will not suffer any disadvantages and will be able to continue their doctoral studies in a regular manner. The supervision and content of ongoing doctoral studies will not be affected by the restructuring.

Do the doctoral candidates have to take action themselves?
No, as mentioned above, the transfer of the doctoral candidates to the Graduate Center of Medicine and Health is automatic; there is no need for action on the part of the doctoral candidates. In general and independent of the dissolution of the above-mentioned Graduate Centers, we recommend to enter already completed achievements into DocGS in a timely manner.

What regulations and requirements for doctoral degrees will apply? What changes will there be?
Regardless of the restructuring, doctoral candidates will continue to be subject to the doctoral regulations on the basis of which they were entered in the doctoral list (unless they have already voluntarily switched to the new doctoral regulations), including the mandatory elements defined in the respective valid doctoral regulations, as well as the minimum requirements of their own graduate center applicable at that time.

Can achievements already made or elements of the qualification program be recognized?
Whoever was already a member of one of the above-mentioned graduate centers as of September 30, 2023, fulfills the qualification program of the previously valid regulations of the faculty graduate centers. Upon application to the Graduate Center of Medicine and Health, existing members may change to the new regulations without the deviating regulation mentioned in sentence 1 and thus have to fulfil the qualification program of the GCMH. The declaration shall be binding. If members from other graduate centers transfer to the GC MH, they must fulfill the qualification program of the GC MH; existing achievements may be recognized upon application, additional achievements are possible.

Which graduate center will be mentioned on the Transcript of Records upon completion of the doctoral degree?
Doctoral candidates who have taken their oral exam by Sept. 30, 2023, will receive a Transcript of Records mentioning their previous graduate center. Doctoral candidates who have their oral exam after Sept. 30, 2023 will receive a Transcript of Records from the Graduate Center of Medicine and Health.
