Medical Program

Candidates with a degree in human medicine or dentistry have the opportunity to follow an individual and structured doctoral program, with a research project in the field of medicine, to earn the title of Dr. med. or Dr. med. dent. at TUM School of Medicine.
Particular emphasis is placed on promoting the medical career of young scientists, especially through integration in research and implementation in clinical practice for the benefit of the patient. In order to demonstrate their acquired ability to carry out independent and in-depth scientific work, doctoral candidates are required to submit a written dissertation, and deliver an oral defense.
Since the issue of the new regulations for the award of doctoral degrees on January 1, 2014, also the medical doctoral programs Dr. med. and Dr. med. dent. are also part of the TUM Graduate School. This gives the doctoral candidates all the advantages of a structured doctoral program.
Doctoral candidates who registered their doctoral project before January 1, 2014 are still subject to the regulations in force at the time of their registration, provided that the registration was complete and correct. Proof of registration is to be provided in the form of a confirmation with stamp and signature of the Graduate Center officer.
Candidates who registered their doctoral project from January 1, 2014 onwards are only subject to the new regulations for the award of doctoral degrees.
